SJAWE hosted Zwarte Fanfare

(polka band from the Netherlands)

Our sincere thanks to Mart Kuster, band leader, and his totally professional group of musicians for three days of exciting music. The band had planned a two week tour of America, but only 2 weeks before the tour was to begin, they were left with a sick tour arranger in Florida and their airline tickets. With the help of Karen Poorman, SJAWE President, and the Internet, they were able to schedule tours and performances in venues from New York, Niagra Falls, Ohio, Washington, D.C. and North and South New Jersey. While the band was in the South Jersey area, they performed at Kennedy Plaza on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, at a reunion party for SJAWE members who traveled to Germany and Austria last summer, and at Cullinary Gardens in Egg Harbor City. Our thanks to Roberta Beckler and her sister Margaret D'ambra for their help in making the arrangements for the Cullinary Gardens concert. All of the performances and the home-stay in SJAWE member and Friends of SJAWE homes were a total success. Also special thanks to Ray Ciccone, a member of our Development Committee, who brought gourmet fruit pies to the reunion party and made a generous donation to help house 2 Zwarte Fanfare members in a local hotel for 2 nights. It is wonderful to see what can be accomplished in such a short time.

Thank you so much.  Anthony and I really enjoyed the concert. In fact I must admit to you that it was one of the greatest concerts I have ever attended. I say that because there were so many special moments in the show. You could really feel it in the audience. This concert was the re-energizing I needed after tax season to get my enthusiasm going as a board member for the SJAWE. I look forward to a great summer for the band!

Karen,

To you and all the SJAWE musicians plus the high school students:Monday night’s performance was stunning! It was musically pleasing and sounded extremely difficult and complex. It was particularly inspiring because of the special recognition the group received. I sat by a Stockton student and her mother who were very impressed with the quality of the music. Congratulations,

Dot
